Honey Time

September brought honey harvesting time. This year Roderick took the bees up to Weiser and the bees really packed away the honey. We got about 100lbs of honey this year and have already given most of it away. Roderick getting ready to take the honey supers off.

Bees

Roderick found a place in Weiser to take his bees for awhile. So Frank my brother in law came over to help. My pictures are out of order but this is them setting down the first hive of bees.

Savannah and I were hiding in the truck after Roderick let them out of there hives. We didn't get in soon enough though, Savvy got stung on the head. All the little spots are the bees flying around.

Savannah and I got bored while Roderick and Frank went for a walk, so we were playing with the camera. I took this one just by holding the camera out in front of me.

New bees

Last Saturday was a big day for Roderick, it was BEE DAY, which to most might not mean much but to him it was a great day. First of all we went to the bee place and they had classes showing how to do different things with your bees. This is a group shot of Roderick and Rodney's group.

I just thought these little boys were soo cute in their bee hats.

Mad Bees!! I am not sure what they were doing over their but the bees were all over the people that were watching.

This is how Savvy spent a lot of her time. She thought the rocks were pretty cool, especially when she discovered drawing with them. After the demonstrations we got our new bees and some supplies and headed home. He spent the rest of the day ticking off the bees.

Roderick taking the new bees out of the nuc boxes and into the new hives. If you look really close you can see the bees flying around. By the time he was done messing with them they were quite mad. It lasted for several days too. See how mad they are?

Cameras

Roderick keeps telling me that I need to take more pictures of the bees. So today I decided that since the sun was shining and the bees were humming that I would get out my old camera and compair it to my new digital one. Well first of all I have to remember how to use it. ( It's been awhile since I have used it) Once I figured that out I remembered how much fun it is to use. The only problem is I have to wait to see what the pictures look like. But I think I got some awesome ones. I was actually pleasantly surprised that my digital took some great ones too. It was so bright out that I couldn't see what the pictures looked like until I got inside. I am so excited to get my 35mm film developed to see how they turned out, because these turned out so good I know my other is way better. I burnt up a whole roll of film in about ten minutes. Thanks hunny for my awesome cameras!

Honey!!

Last Friday Roderick harvested his honey from one of his hives. This is the hive torn apart. Wow that is alot of bees. This hive is doing really good. Earlier this spring he moved this one over by the pheasant coops, the pasture right next to it was in full bloom most of the summer so the bees made lots of yummy honey.

This is the honey extractor. I don't know how it works but look at the honey flow!!

Here is a picture of all the tools he used to harvest the honey. When he was done he left it outside for the bees to clean up and boy oh boy did they clean. Their was a hugh swarm around this stuff for two days. Hope you all enjoy the honey!!

Roderick's obession has expanded. Now we are the "proud" owners of not one but two bee hives. He is obsesed with talking about and finding places that need bees. Here are the pictures of them when he brought them home. Them queen has a green spot on it so you can find it easier. Enjoy!
